What to watch on Netflix this Christmas!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Happy 1st December!!

The Christmas songs are on, the Christmas trees are up and decorated and now it’s time to get cosy and watch some Christmas films. (If you haven’t started already!)

2020 is definitely in need of some Christmas cheer and it’s looking like the festivities have started earlier this year over on Netflix!

The streaming platform started premiering new Christmas movies back in October and have continued to release at least one new merry movie every week.

So here is our Christmas movie guide on what to watch on Netflix this December.

There is something for everyone to enjoy and don’t worry we won’t be giving any spoilers - just a little info on the new releases.

Happy Streaming!

The Princess Switch: Switched Again

Back in 2018, Netflix released an original holiday rom-com called The Princess Switch. Fast forward to 2020, Netflix have now released a sequel of the royalty-based classic rom-com called The Princess Switch: Switched Again. Starring High School Musical’s Vanessa Hudgens, we see her playing not one, not two, but three characters! Now we don’t want to give too much of the plot away but if you love a good rom-com and are a sucker for a bit of romance, then this could be your new favourite Christmas movie!

 The Holidate

This cosy Netflix festive film starring Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey and Kristin Chenoweth was the first festive film to be released on Netflix back in October. Sloane (Emma Roberts) and Jackson (Luke Bracey) hate the Christmas season so they decide to pledge to be each other’s plus-ones for each holiday celebration over the course of the year.  However, as a year of being each other’s plus one comes to an end, Sloane and Jackson find that sharing everything they hate may just prove to be something they unexpectedly love.

As ironic as it may sound with both of the main characters hating the holidays and the festivities that come along with it, this festive film will leave you feeling Christmassy and not hating the holidays!

 Operation Christmas Drop

Loosely based on the real-life US Air Force Operation Christmas Drop humanitarian mission, the story of Operation Christmas Drop sees congressional aide, Emma (Kat Graham) skip the holidays with her family to investigate a tropical Air Force base. Her mission is to find a reason to shut the pricey organisation down but during her trip Emma meets Andrew (Alexander Ludwig) who might just change her mind. Sounds intriguing right?

Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square

Now, who doesn’t love Dolly Parton?? Aside from spending millions of dollars to help stop the pandemic, Dolly Parton has been playing the part of a literal angel in her new movie, Christmas on the Square. Watch Dolly as she tries to help Christine Baranski’s Character Regina fix her scrooge-like ways before Christmas. If you love musicals then this one's for you as this Netflix holiday musical features 14 original songs by the country legend herself.

 Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey

Another one for the musical lovers out there. Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey will have you embark on a journey like no other. When legendary toymaker Jeronicus Jangle has his most prized creation stolen from him by his trusted apprentice, it’s up to his bright and inventive granddaughter to heal old wounds and reawaken the magic within.

Described as a musical adventure and a visual spectacle for the ages, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey highlights the strength of family and the power of possibility.

 The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two

Just like Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two is one for all the family to enjoy. Following the 2018 hit Christmas Chronicles, the 2020 sequel has us heading back to the North Pole with Santa (Kurt Russell) and Kate (Darby Camp) for another festive adventure. When a troublemaker threatens to destroy the North Pole and end Christmas for good, Santa and Kate must protect Christmas once again but this time with the help of Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Claus.

So if you’re looking for that perfect festive family movie, we’ve found your match. Just make sure you watch Christmas Chronicles first! (Which is also available to stream on Netflix!)

 Dash and Lily

Always wanted to go to New York at Christmas? Well this show will have you wanting to go even more!

Set at Christmas time in a pre-pandemic New York City, the Netflix eight part series follows the tale of two teenagers slowly falling in love through a citywide scavenger hunt. Packed full of every Christmas song you can think of and incredibly colourful costumes and decor, Dash and Lily is the perfect cosy TV series to binge this Christmas!

If you’ve already watched all of the above and are in need of some more Christmas movies to watch on Netflix, here is an extended list of festive movies to keep you occupied over the Christmas season including some absolute classics!
