The Falcon And The Winter Soldier is officially out!

The Falcon And The Winter Soldier is officially out!

Today is the day we’ve all been waiting for (seven months after it’s original date - thanks Covid!)

WandaVision might be over, but Disney +’s next big Marvel show The Falcon And The Winter Soldier has arrived!

Since the announcement of the new upcoming shows from the MCU, this superhero team up has been one of the most highly anticipated additions to the Disney + original shows.

After Captain America decided to literally go live in the past and shove his trusty shield into the hands of someone else, the question has been left unanswered as to who will be filling those extremely big boots!

The Falcon And The Winter Soldier was due to be released back in August 2020, but due to the pandemic the launch date was pushed back to a 2021 release.

What is The Falcon And The Winter Soldier about?

The Falcon And The Winter Soldier follows Sam Wilson (Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier) in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, after Steve Rogers passed the Captain America shield onto Sam at the end of the film. The plot focuses on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier as they team up in a worldwide adventure that puts their abilities to the test as they battle the anarchist group, the Flag-Smashers.

The series will show who is worthy of the shield and Captain America’s mantle. According to Marvel, their global adventure will test both their abilities and patience.

What can we expect from the new series?

Until now, Marvel has kept most of the details surrounding the show super secret.

The new Marvel Studios series looks to be full of the action and drama that has made the Marvel Cinematic Universe so dynamic in the past, so expect to see some awesome action sequences alongside great character development for both titular characters!

The legacy left behind by Steve Rogers aka Captain America is going to play a huge role in the story and rumour has it, we are most likely going to be following Sam Wilson’s transformation into Captain America. However, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier may not be the only choices for the next Captain America.

If you have watched all of the trailers already, you would’ve noticed that there is a scene showing someone walking onto a football field in a Captain America uniform. In the Marvel Comics, John F. Walker/US Agent is known for temporarily replacing Steve Rogers as Captain America for a while, so it’s a good chance that the person you watched walking onto that football field is in fact Walker.

In addition to the two returning characters from the MCU, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier  will be introducing some new characters alongside the return of a few familiar faces. Daniel Bruhl will return as Baron Zemo, wearing his traditional purple mask from the comics. Emily VanCamp is back as Sharon Carter, aka Peggy’s niece and former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Plus, Don Cheadle is also set to make an appearance as War Machine.

The Falcon And The Winter Soldier will be more than just your everyday television series.

Where can we watch The Falcon And The Winter Soldier

The show is the second MCU Disney + exclusive series to launch on the streaming platform.

Unlike WandaVision, The Falcon And The Winter Soldier has not launched with two episodes on the same day. A new episode will be dropped every Friday on the streaming platform, with the sixth and final episode arriving on the 23rd April.

The show will slot right into WandaVision’s Friday night spot. Whilst this series has fewer episodes than WandaVIsion, episodes will vary from 40 to 50 minutes long.

You can now watch the first episode of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier now exclusively on Disney +.

Following the incredible success of WandaVision, the bar for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Disney + shows has been set incredibly high. However, from what we have seen so far of this series, we can only imagine great things!

After finishing WandaVision, we were in need of something else to watch to fill that Marvel void in our hearts and we think The Falcon And The Winter Soldier will fit very well.

We’re still coming to terms with Captain America hanging up his shield, but now we get to watch Sam and Bucky on their own adventure with coming to terms with a world in which Captain America has hung up his shield.

It’s been a long time coming but we are so excited to see Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprise their title roles as Sam Wilson and James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes and watch them live out their best (or worst) post - Captain America lives.

Although Steve Rogers is irreplaceable, who do you think will be the next Captain America? Let us know in the comments below!
