The wizarding world of Harry Potter has been a part of all our lives for almost two decades now and nearly 20 years later we are still OBSESSED.
The Harry Potter series has no shortage of emotional, dramatic and even hilarious moments. So, to honour the wizards and the muggles - we have decided to share our Top 10 Harry Potter moments.
We must admit, it is almost impossible to choose which 10 moments are our favourites, but we thought we would give it a go!
From Ron’s dress robe to Neville Longbottom’s bravery, here are 10 of Vanilla Underground’s favourite moments from the wizarding world of Harry Potter.
Spoiler alert – If you have not watched all 8 movies yet or have not watched Harry Potter at all (First of all, what are you doing?!) but secondly, we advise you not to read this.
1. Yer a Wizard, Harry
We could not put together our Top 10 Harry Potter moments and not include this pivotal moment. In Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone (2001) we see the legend that is Rubeus Hagrid inform the boy that lived that he is in fact, a wizard. A staple moment that first introduces Harry to the wizarding world.
2. Harrys first time in Gringotts
In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) we see Hagrid take Harry to Gringotts Bank for the first time. The look on Harry’s face when he learned that his late parents had left him a great deal of money in a vault = priceless.
3. Why spiders? Why couldn’t it be ‘follow the butterflies?’
I think we can all sympathise for Ron in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) when he is faced with an army of spiders in the forbidden forest. Ron Weasley is famously known for his hilarious one liners and ridiculous facial expressions so when he is faced with his biggest fear of spiders, we couldn't help but laugh.
4. Dobby is a free elf!
We are introduced to Dobby - one of the most lovable characters in the Harry Potter series in the second film. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) we all celebrated the moment when Dobby was freed! Thanks to Harry, Lucius Malfoy was tricked into handing the house elf a sock which meant he was freed from a life of servitude to the Malfoy family. Go Dobby!
5. The Yule Ball
From Hermione’s grand entrance and walking in with Viktor Krum to Ron’s Dress Robe! The Yule Ball in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) may not have included a gigantic action scene but watching it made us smile and we felt like we were watching a montage of incredible coming-of-age moments.
6. Tribute to Dumbledore
Albus Dumbledore is easily one of the most iconic characters in the Harry Potter series. So, when the most celebrated wizard of his time dies at the end of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (2009) we were extremely emotional. This touching scene is a real goosebump moment.
7. When Ron and Hermione Kiss for the first time
We waited HOW LONG?! Through the awkward flirting and tense moments, we finally got the moment we had all been waiting for in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011).
8. Finding out Snape’s Patronus
It took us a long time to understand Severus Snape. We were led to believe that he hated Harry but in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011) we were presented with the biggest plot twist. When Snape told Harry to take his memories in his dying moments, it was revealed that Severus Snape’s Patronus was also a doe, which symbolised his love for Lily Potter.
9.Professor McGonagall Protects Hogwarts
Another goosebump moment. When Professor McGonagall led the defence of Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011) this iconic moment left us in awe. Watching Professor McGonagall perform the “Piertotum Locomotor” spell solidified to us just how much of a legend Professor McGonagall is.
10. Neville Longbottom standing up to Lord Voldemort
Join us in saying that Neville Longbottom is the unsung hero of the Harry Potter series. When Neville stood alone and unarmed against Lord Voldemort himself in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011) we were celebrating his bravery and cheering him on from our sofas. We love you Neville Longbottom!
