Our Summer Watchlist!
You'd be lying if you said that this summer hasn't been GREAT for new movie and TV releases.
What is a great summer without some brand new movies and TV shows to watch? The streaming platforms have upped their game this year and are the gift that just keeps on giving. Streaming services have not disappointed us and we've had so much to choose from that we just can't keep up! Our watch later lists have never looked better.
We're sure that you've overheard your colleagues discussing Season 4 of Stranger Things or scrolled through your twitter feed and saw endless comments about Anthony Bridgerton and Edwina Sharma's relationship.
If you are one of those people who have faced the struggles of being one of the very few to have binge-watched the most talked about shows and movies of the year, have no fear, as we've put together our summer watchlist for you!
Now we know that summer is coming to an end, but that doesn't mean our summer watchlist has to!
From Stranger Things to She-Hulk, here are some of our recommendations of TV shows and movies we watched over the summer.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law
From its humour and heart, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is another win for the MCU. Who knew a Marvel series in a sitcom format is what we needed?! Female empowerment has never looked so much fun.
Only Murders in the Building - Season 2
This is a series that we didn't think we would get attached to but can confirm, we are obsessed! Selena Gomez, Steve Martin + Martin Short working together is an absolute dream to watch and they really do bring their comedy A game to the whole series. Season 2 is even better than the first and they are joined by some new faces played by Cara Delevingne, Amy Schumer, Michael Rappaport, Shirley MacLaine, and more.
High School Musical the Musical: The Series - Season 3
Yes it's cheesy and a little over the top at times, but do we continue to watch every episode? Yes, yes we do. Again, we didn't think this would be a series that we would've grown an attachment to but here we are, humming the songs to ourselves in our heads at our desks. If High School Musical was YOUR movie growing up, then you will probably love this series as an adult too. Also, as an Olivia Rodrigo Stan, we were just hoping to see a little more of her in this season but I guess she's too busy being a worldwide pop star these days. Don't worry, we still love you Olivia!
Lightyear
If you adore the Toy Story movies like we do then you're going to want to add this to your watchlist. From its thrilling action to its humour and heart, all of the elements in this movie helped it shine as one of the brightest stars in the Pixar sky.
Yes, it's completely different to the Toy Story era but it is supposed to be a sci-fi adventure movie after all! Lightyear looks at growing up, making mistakes, recognising them and ultimately, living with them. If you love Buzz Lightyear the toy, then you're going to love Buzz the space ranger even more in this movie.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
If there's one thing you have to watch on Disney+ this summer, it's Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen's return to the Star Wars world.
This series is everything we could have ever imagined and more. Set 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi follows Obi-Wan on his journey after losing his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker to the dark side. Yes we have goosebumps just reading that out loud. If you're a Star Wars fan then this series on Disney + has got to be at the top of your watchlist.
Ms. Marvel
This new series follows Kamala, a Muslim American teenager who is just trying to survive growing up in Jersey City. While she's just trying to fit in, Kamala's life gets a little complicated when she suddenly develops her own superpowers, just like the people she grew up idolising. We can totally relate with Kamala as she is a huge superhero fan, but the kids at school and her family don't really understand her.
Stranger Things: Season 4
I mean, we couldn't put together our summer watchlist without including Stranger Things could we?! Stranger Things for us has got to be THE show of the summer and quite possibly the show of 2022. This season takes a spookier and even darker turn, but we absolutely loved it! It's been nearly 2 months since we watched the final episode and we're already rewatching the entire series again, it's THAT good.
And yes, we're still obsessing over Eddie Munson and have probably worn our Hellfire Club T-shirts more times than we should have already.
Shop our Stranger Things Hellfire Club Tee here.
Locke and Key - Season 3
Raise your hand if you love watching Locke and Key?! Locke and Key couldn't have come along at a better time when it premiered back in 2020. When we were all locked in our homes (pardon the pun), Locke and Key was the series waiting for us to binge watch.
Now the third and final chapter of the fantasy series based on the comics by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez is here and wraps up the story of the Locke family and their childhood.
The Gray Man
One of Netflix's biggest movies ever! You've got Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Rege - Jean Page AND it's directed by The Russo Brothers! What more could you ask for?! From its gorgeous locations, massive set pieces and of course, non-stop action, The Gray Man is a must watch for those who love an action-packed action movie.
Hello, Goodbye and Everything In Between
If you're a fan of To All The Boys I've Loved Before movies, then you will love watching this movie as this book adaptation follows in the footsteps of other young adult novels that have been brought to life.
Purple Hearts
The premise of Purple Hearts is simple. An aspiring musician agrees to fake-marry a troubled Marine for military benefits. A military marriage of convenience. Despite receiving a widespread of negative reviews, this movie received more than 150 million viewing hours in its first ten days! Aside from the controversy, we really enjoyed watching Purple Hearts and it pulled at our heartstrings a few more times than expected. Oh and I guarantee you will be searching for the movie soundtrack afterwards.
Spiderhead
If you are a fan of Chris Hemsworth and action movies then you're going to want to watch this movie. Spiderhead is about a future where prison inmates can have reduced sentences if they volunteer for new experimental drugs.
Bridgerton - Season 2
Of course, we had to include Bridgerton, it would just be rude not to! Bridgerton did not disappoint with Season 2 thanks to Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey's incredibly electrifying chemistry. We literally can't fault the second season. Okay, maybe they could've had the Duke return BUT we can't have it all can we?! Now the wait begins for Season 3...
The Summer I Turned Pretty
If you're still in summer mode and are a hopeless romantic at heart, then this series is one for you to watch. Based on the beloved book series by Jenny Han, The Summer I Turned Pretty follows Belly, whose favourite time of year so happens to be summer as it means spending the entire summer with Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher at her favourite place in the world. This series explores the ever-evolving relationship between Belly, Conrad and Jeremiah as well as the special bond between mothers and children.
Our thoughts on this series is that it's the perfect young adult series that is filled with love and heartbreak and will hit you in all of the feels. Oh to be young and care free again.
