Our 2000s Chick Flick Movie Watchlist!

Our 2000s Chick Flick Movie Watchlist!

There’s just something about the movies of the 2000s that will always hold a special place in our hearts. From reminding us of our younger years, to influencing our bedroom decor, fashion sense and life choices. Chick flicks seem to have the power to cheer us up and help us escape from reality when we need a break from it all. The best ones also convey meaningful messages to us between the lines that taught us about life.

I’m sure you can agree with us when we say that we all loved our chick flicks in the 2000s.

From wearing pink on Wednesdays to learning legal jargon. The characters that came out of the era are among the most memorable and most loveable.

There’s no denying that chick flicks in the 00’s were ICONIC and still are to this day.

Recently, Netflix has been adding all the iconic 00's classics like Mean Girls and Clueless to the streaming platform, so it only seemed right to put together our very own Chick Flick Movie Watchlist!

Here is our list of 2000s classic chick flicks that you have to watch (or rewatch!).

13 Going On 30 (2003)

You’re lying to yourself if you didn't wish you were old for a day just to see what it was like – only to discover that being an adult sucks.

A Cinderella Story (2004)

A classic movie that we can all recite word by word still to this day. A Cinderella Story is the ultimate modern fairy tale and is one of our favourites.

Who else fell in love with Austin Ames (aka Chad Michael Murray) and dreamt of our very own princess moment? We certainly did!

Oh and the soundtrack?! We still have it on repeat, 17 years later!

Alexa play “I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain.

Clueless (1995)

Ugh, As If!

Although this movie came out in the 90s, we just had to include it in our movie watchlist! Clueless is a whole lotta movie with substance and style.

Whether you’ve seen the flick or not, it’s not what you imagine it to be. From honest female relationships to iconic fashion, Clueless has everything you could ever want from a chick flick and more!

There are way too many quotable moments in this movie that we will remember forever.

Clueless is not your ‘cliche’ rom-com (if you know, you know) and we absolutely love it!

Mean Girls (2004)

“She doesn’t even go here!”

With being one of the most quotable movies to date, it’s hard for us to pick our favourite quote from this cult classic. It’s easy to see why Mean Girls has become such a classic.

This movie gave us every reason to idolise it. With its overall humour, star-studded cast (Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams in the SAME film!) and representation of a semi-accurate high school experience for a lot of us, Mean Girls will forever hold a pink shaped hole in our hearts.

Mean Girls is just one of those movies that we can watch over and over again. We want to be friends with Damian and rock the purple bra and white vest look!

And yes, we still wear pink on Wednesdays.

Legally Blonde (2001)

Every girl should watch Legally Blonde at least once.

Not only is Legally Blonde a barrel of laughs, but this iconic tale also portrays a strong message about women achieving more than they always thought they could, alongside finding the value in hard work over appearance.

Thanks to this movie, we all use legal jargon in our everyday lives now.

And if you need a Legally Blonde fix, get excited because Legally Blonde 3 will bend and snap its way into our lives in 2022.

Bring It On (2000)

Who else wanted to become a cheerleader after watching this movie? With the most amazing dance/cheer routines, not only did this movie inspire young girls to try out cheerleading and dance, it also taught us how to be fierce and competitive.

Also, who remembers the iconic chant?

Step Up (2006)

Dancing movies were a big deal in the 2000s with the likes of Save The Last Dance and Honey. In the mid-2000s they only got more infectious thanks to this iconic love story. Plus, we were introduced to the world of Channing Tatum’s dancing!

Crossroads (2002)

If growing up, you were obsessed with Britney Spears like we were then you must’ve watched Crossroads at least a few hundred times by now. We got to witness Britney’s acting debut and fell in love with her even more. From her rendition of “I Love Rock n Roll” to the debut of “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” - this gem of a film will continue to stay as one of our favourites. Of course, we all had to watch this movie at a way too young age just to see Britney.

She’s The Man (2006)

Not only did She’s The Man retell a classic play in a modern way, but this movie introduced us to Channing Tatum, made us love soccer and allowed us to witness Amanda Bynes incredible acting!

Did you know She’s The Man is based on the Shakespearean play Twelfth Night? Who knew!

The Princess Diaries (2001)

Who else dreamt of being a long-lost princess? Our DNA might have failed us, but The Princess Diaries gave us new dreams and aspirations to live up to.

The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003)

HEY NOW, HEY NOW, THIS IS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF!

Don't try and tell us that you didn’t just sing along whilst reading the previous line.

Picture this: A full-length feature film about Lizzie McGuire in Italy who fell in love with an Italian popstar and lived out her own popstar dream. Sounds iconic right?

Well this movie is what dreams are made of and will forever hold a place in our fangirl hearts.

John Tucker Must Die (2006)
