Movies to look forward to in 2022!

2021 has been yet another complicated year for us all. With its ups and downs, because of Covid-19 there have been several delays and postponements for most industries including the entertainment industry.

Movie releases that were set for this year have now been pushed back to 2022 and beyond.

As we prepare to enter the year of 2022, you're probably wondering what do we have to look forward to? WELL, there are several movie releases that we know you will be really excited about! 

In 2021, we saw the reopening of cinemas and blockbuster movies hitting the big screen in what felt like forever! Now, as we enter the new year there are even more movies to hit the big screen in 2022!

To keep you in the loop, here are just some of the movies that are set for release in 2022.

Eternals 

Release date: January 12th 2022

If you’ve missed out on seeing Eternals on the big screen over the last few months, don’t worry! The latest installment from the MCU will be available to stream on Disney + for all subscribers on January 12th. If you’re huge Marvel fans like us then you will LOVE this movie!

Uncharted

Release date: February 18th 2022

The release date for Uncharted is finally here and we are just a few months away! Starring everybody's favourite Spider-Man, Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, this movie is set to be one action-packed tale! 

Tom Holland is hanging up his Spidey suit and is going from one universally-loved hero to another with playing a younger version of Nathan Drake's character that we have seen in the games.  

The movie will be a prequel to the game series, picking up the events of the first game, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

The Batman

Release date: 4th March 2022

Before the pandemic, The Batman was set for release back in June of this year as the second of three 2021 DC movies. Like most movie releases, this plan was postponed due to production delays. As a result, the new release date for the movie has been moved to the 4th March, making it the first superhero move of the year.

This new big-screen movie of Bruce Wayne's story will introduce audiences to Robert Pattinson as Batman. Catwoman will also appear in the film that is set to explore the early days of the Dark Knight's career.

Turning Red

Release date: 11th March 2022

And just like that, it's time for another release from Disney's Pixar! Turning Red introduces an overachieving 13-year old name Meillin "Mei" Lee who must learn to control her anger or else she'll turn into a red panda.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Release date: 8th April 2022

Everybody's favourite blue hedgehog is BACK for another next-level adventure. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be speeding onto the big screen in April 2022 and it looks like Tails and Knuckles will be joining Sonic in the new movie!

With multiple references to the game series, a bigger role for Tails and some more familiar faces, we can't wait to see what Sonic gets up to this time!

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

Release date: 15th April 2022

The third installment of the Harry Potter prequel series takes place in the years leading up to World War II as the globe-trotting Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) and his Wizarding pals figure out how to take down two dark lords: Adolf Hitler and Gellert Grindelwald.

When we heard that there was going to be another Fantastic Beasts film, we already started counting down the days! There's nothing more magical than a movie from the Wizarding World and from just watching the trailer, our muggle hearts and wands are ready! 

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Release date: 6th May 2022

Six years after he originally debuted in the MCU, Benedict Cumberbatch is back with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As usual for Marvel, we know very little about the plot of the movie BUT at least we have a trailer to watch in the meantime! We also know that Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) will be playing a prominent role in the movie. Oh, and even though we are yet to see the official trailer online we've heard it's being shown before screenings of the new Spiderman movie!

Jurassic World: Dominion

Release date: 10th June 2022

Human-made dinosaurs now roam the Earth in the third installment of the Jurassic Park spinoff. And just when you think it couldn't get any better...OG stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and the one and only JEFF GOLDBLUM are back to save us! Yes you read that right. 

Another incredible movie to hit the big screens in 2022.

Lightyear

Release date: 17th June 2022

When Captain America meets Buzz Lightyear. Chris Evans goes to infinity and beyond in another new Pixar animated feature. Our beloved Captain America (Chris Evans) plays the fictional astronaut who we all know and love.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

Release date: 1st July 2022

Minions: The Rise of Gru was originally scheduled for release on July 3rd 2020 but now, fast forward two years later and we finally have a new release date!  

The follow-up to Minions will tell the tale of Gru’s origin story and explore 12 year-old Gru’s mission to join the supervillain group Vicious 6. It takes place after Minions but before the first Despicable Me film, when Gru is a super-villain and in charge of the Minions.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Release date: 8th July 2022

Chris Hemsworth will return as the God of Thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder alongside a star studded cast that we just can’t get our head around! In the forthcoming forquel we can expect to see the likes of Natalie Portman, Russell Crowe, Tessa Thompson, Chris Pratt, Matt Damon, Sam Neill, Jaimie Alexander, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, Melissa McCarthy AND Vin Diesel! Wow!

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Release date 11th November 2022

Now you’re probably wondering… how are they going to release a Black Panther sequel without Chadwick Boseman? Sadly, earlier this year we lost the incredible Chadwick Boseman and his iconic performance as Black Panther will never be forgotten. 

At the moment, not much has been revealed about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever AKA Black Panther 2, but what we do know is that Chadwick Boseman’s role as T’Challa will not be re-cast and a lot of stars from the previous film will be returning alongside an unexpected character….

Black Panther 2 is currently scheduled to hit the big screen on November 11th, but that could possibly end up changing. 

Avatar 2

Release date: 16th December 2022

Can you believe it?! 13 years after the original movie, we are FINALLY getting a sequel to Avatar! Even if you thought this movie was a little overrated, the thought of a sequel has got to be intriguing right? You must be thinking, why has it taken so long for James Cameron to follow up the biggest film of all time? Well it’s been said that there are actually going to be four sequels, with the first two already in production and pre-production stages. How exciting!
