Marvel's Loki - first episode review
10 years ago, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) began his journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a conniving villain capable of turning on his family and kingdom in a ploy for power. Fast forward to present day and we finally have the chance to discover just exactly what makes the God of Mischief tick.
The long-awaited series Loki has finally arrived on Disney +, with the legend that is Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as the God of Mischief and mayhem, the adored MCU villain he has played in six Marvel movies.
Our favourite MCU villain is finally receiving the recognition he deserves after escaping the Avengers. I’m sure you can all agree with us on this that Tom has been deserving of his own MCU release ever since his first appearance in Thor.
Loki’s charisma is turned on full force in this series and we’ve only watched the first episode so far! Whatever your expectations of the new series might be, the show will exceed them by quite a lot.
Loki takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, when the Avengers travelled back in time to retrieve the Infinity Stones so that they could snap half of the universe back into existence after Thanos caused their obliteration in Avengers: Infinity War.
Something to note from watching Loki is that the Loki character we meet in the new Disney + series is the version of the character who just launched a full-scale alien attack on New York, having been given free rein by Thanos to wreak havoc on Earth, attacking, hypnotising and killing those who got in his way.
Despite Loki’s villainous antics, we can’t help but love him! Why is that? It must be down to the fact that Tom Hiddleston was born to play Loki. Only Tom could pull off a character that is as devious and alluring as Loki. Over the years, Tom has continued to deliver in his role as Loki. From his menacing grin to his wit and the iconic greasy hair.
The whole set up of the show from what we have watched so far is as funny and charming as you would expect. It seems that Marvel have really put a lot of thought (and money) into ensuring that the new original series is thought-provoking and entertaining.
In the first episode, we were introduced to a new arrival into the MCU in the shape of comedic actor, Owen Wilson. Known for his blonde locks and ‘wowwwww’, Owen Wilson plays the role of TVA agent, Mobius M. Mobius and slots in perfectly and makes a great companion to Loki. We’re excited to see his character develop and watch him suss out Loki’s cunning ways.
From just watching the first episode, we can already tell that this series has serious potential to be incredible. Not only does the series have the potential to tie up loose ends from the MCU, but from the first episode alone it is apparent that it will have a significant impact on future Marvel releases going into Phase Four and beyond.
We loved seeing Tom Hiddleston return to our screens once again, and it’s refreshing to see the return of Loki.
One thing is for sure, it’s definitely been worth the 10 year wait!
The first episode of Loki is now available to stream on Disney + with new episodes dropping every Wednesday.
